Brooke Cheney is the Owner/ Instructor at A Great Start Shooting School in Harwinton, CT.

Brooke is also a Sponsored Competitive shooter in IDPA and USPSA.

She is also politically active, for the purposes of trying to get folks to focus on reducing violence in our society, rather than the knee-jerk reactions of some to call for more gun regulation. One way that she connects with her elected officials is through her participation in The DC Project as one of the CT Delegates.

And, Brooke is a proud mom of two pre-teen kids.

“Who am I and why do I teach?

My father always had guns around, but I never really knew anything about them.  My dad would take me to the range, hand me a loaded gun, I would shoot some targets, then hand it back to him.  This only happened  a handful of times.  I never knew how to load or unload a gun.

When I met my husband in college, he had a pistol permit so I decided to get one too.  Funny thing was we rarely went shooting and when we did, it was pretty much the same thing.  He would hand me a gun, I would shoot, and then I would hand it back to him.

In 2007 we moved and my pistol permit expired to the point that I needed to take the class over again.  I was all excited because this was going to be my first real class and I couldn’t wait!  When I got there I had such high hopes that now I was really going to learn all about guns and everything I needed to know.  Eight hours later, I left with the feeling of, “That’s it?”  I passed the class, I shot my targets, but I didn’t really feel any more confident than before.

In 2010, my husband started traveling for work and I found myself home alone with two small children.  I knew I didn’t want to become the statistic of people who harm themselves with their own firearms.  I knew I wanted more training.  I started searching for some kind of basic pistol courses in the area.  All I could find were full weekend or full week classes that I would need to travel too, that were hundreds of dollars.  I also wasn’t sure if I even met the basic skills needed to attend one of these courses.  At A Great Start Shooting School I look to give you a place to start to build your confidence and open the possibilities to you.

I still remember that first time of being able to pack my own bag and head to the range.  I was so excited and confident!  I want to share that feeling with everyone that wants to learn.  I want to let other people learn that confidence that comes with mastering another skill.  I have been learning and training ever since!  One of the best things about training is that if I don’t know the answer you are looking for, I probably know someone who does.

Renee Wittrock is the co-founder, along with her husband, Chip, of the NEW Scottsdale start-up Sportsmen’s Business Alliance. She owns multiple businesses, is an author, international speaker and Entrepreneur from Scottsdale Arizona. She is active in the business community and economic development and she is the current Chair for the Scottsdale Chamber’s Airpark Action Committee. As a thought leader in the community she works consistently to bring biology-based wildlife conservation efforts to the forefront of the economic conversations in the city.

As a community leader, advocate for our 2^nd Amendment rights and the protection of our hunting and fishing heritage, Renee sits on Hunters and Angler’s Heritage Workshop Group (HAHWG) which is a group supported by Arizona Game and Fish Department (AZGFD) along with 60 Non Government Organizations.  She also is a consistent participant and speaker at the AZGFD  Outdoor Business Summit.

She speaks on the decline of hunters and fishermen in the United States and how that problem mirrors the work force issues that are being experienced by the business community. She speaks and writes about Recruiting, Reactivating and Retaining Hunters and Fishermen in the United States and the need for education and social outreach in this area.

Renee earned her BA in Journalism in 1990 from San Diego State University.

She has been happily married to her husband, business partner and best friend Chip Wittrock since 1991. She and Chip own and operate Wittrock Financial Group (WFG). Established in 1987, WFG is boutique wealth management firm in partnership with BCJ Financial. According to Renee, “Wittrock Financial Group has been the backbone that allows Chip and I to support our entrepreneurial, hunting, fishing and activist habits” with their most recent venture being the soon to launch Sportsmen’s Business Alliance. A family business that will include their pride and joy, their son Levi Wittrock as an active partner.

She is the mother of Levi Wittrock a world class hunter, collegiate and professional bass fisherman.

Tennille Chidester is the General Manager of 3-Gun Nation and host of reality TV Show Ammo and Attitude, which I won in 2013. Represents F-1 Firearms, Browning, Voodoo Tactical, MGM Targets, Lucas Oil Outdoor Line, and Vortex!

This 41 year old mother of two has been in the shooting sports for roughly the last 20 years.  Her family owns MGM Targets and shooting is very much a family affair for them!
