Our guest today is Knox Williams. Knox serves as Senior Fellow for American Justice Policy at the America First Policy Institute (AFPI).
In 2011, he formed the American Suppressor Association, dedicated to suppressor advocacy and education.
During his years of advocacy, he has worked on suppressor reforms across the country, including expanding lawful suppressor ownership and hunting, reducing NFA wait times, and ultimately eliminating the federal $200 transfer tax on suppressors.
And, in 2025, Knox was elected to the National Rifle Association Board of Directors.
1) One of the biggest developments in hearing protection has been the elimination of the $200 federal transfer tax on suppressors for firearms. And now we’re seeing litigation challenging what remains of the National Firearms Act’s regulatory structure. What has actually changed for gun owners, what hasn’t, and where does the fight over the NFA go from here?
2) As a Senior Fellow for American Justice Policy at the America First Policy Institute, talk to us about the huge news coming out of the country of Colombia, where President Abelardo De La Espriella (ah-beh-LAR-doh deh lah es-PREE-eh-yah) just lifted the country’s ban on owning guns, calling it “unfair” that law-abiding citizens have been left defenseless as criminals arm themselves “to the teeth.” It would seem that they’re following the American lead, by recognizing firearm ownership is about deterring crime and personal and family protection.
3) There is more big news brewing with AFPI’s recent amicus brief filed in the Viramontes v. Cook County Supreme Court case. What is this case and how significant might it be for American Gun Owners?
4) Your work now spans the American Suppressor Association, public policy at AFPI, and the NRA Board. Looking at the Second Amendment landscape from all three perspectives, what do you see as the next major opportunities—and challenges—for firearm owners and the organizations representing them?
