John Petrolino is a U.S. Merchant Marine Officer, writer, firearms instructor, and author of Decoding Firearms: An Easy to Read Guide on Basic Gun Safety & Use. Petrolino matriculated at Massachusetts Maritime Academy, where he received a BS in Marine Engineering.
Petrolino’s work on the 2nd Amendment has appeared primarily at BearingArms.com, AmmoLand.com, News2A.com, ShootingNewsWeekly.com, and TheTruthAboutGuns.com.
In 2024, Petrolino launched a product and travel review site, TheSquareReviews.com, where he serves as the publisher/editor-in-chief.
In 2022 Petrolino was awarded the “Media Figure of the Year” award by San Diego County Gun Owners PAC and the “Blogger of the Year” award by the Second Amendment Foundation. Petrolino was a 2024 recipient of the Coalition of New Jersey Firearm Owners “Patriot Pin” and the Second Amendment Foundation named him “Journalist of the Year.” Also in 2024, Petrolino was elected to serve on the board of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms.

1) You place emphasis throughout chapter one and cover it more in chapter 9 on sanitary measures and considerations. Why is this an important consideration to add to your book about training?
2) What about your book separates it from other ‘how-to’ books on shooting?
3) Your book has an impressive number of illustrations…more than 115! Why did you decide to produce such a heavily illustrated book?
