Segment Guest List

Rob’s story truly begins on January 17, 1989.  That day a gunman walked onto the campus of Cleveland Elementary School in Stockton, California, armed with an AK-47.  The gunman opened fire on the hundreds of young children who were playing on the playground during recess. 29 students and a teacher were shot, and five were killed , before the suspect ended his own life as the police arrived.  Rob was shot twice during that incident and was only in first grade at the time.

The shooting sparked one of the very first assault weapons bans, and is still talked about to this day in legislative hearings across the country. Rob never blamed the gun…
Rob went on to become a police officer at the age of 21, beginning his career working for the same school district police department that patrolled Cleveland School.  He later transferred to the Union City Police Department in 2007. Rob’s story came full circle in 2013, when he was one of six officers who opened fire on a gunman who was walking through a neighborhood, armed with a pistol and a machete.  Rob returned to the school district police department in Stockton as a sergeant in 2016.  He was medically retired in early 2023.
Rob spends much of his time now days working as a training consultant for a few different companies. Rob has been invited to share his story at several conferences around the country.  He focuses on active shooter response for both law-enforcement and civilians alike.  Rob is the host of The Voice of Reason Podcast, and is in the process of building and promoting The Voice of Reason Media Productions.
Rob is an unapologetic supporter of the second amendment, and is an avid shooter.  He has partnered with Gun Owners of America in the past, testifying on Capital Hill, and has testified alongside Gun Owners of California in several public safety committee hearings in Sacramento.
