Top Shot Chris Cheng is an American sports shooter, Second Amendment and diversity outreach advocate, and History Channel’s Top Shot Season 4 Champion. He is the author of the beginner’s shooting guide Shoot to Win and the World War II historical novel Proven in Blood: A Novel of War, Betrayal & Belonging.
Inspired by true events and the experiences of real Nisei, Proven in Blood follows Japanese American soldiers of the legendary 100th Infantry Battalion / 442nd Regimental Combat Team as they fight to prove their loyalty to a country that incarcerated their families. Blending meticulous historical research with compelling fiction, the novel shines a light on one of the greatest—and least widely known—stories of courage and sacrifice in American military history.
Cheng is a self-taught amateur shooter who defeated 17 professional marksmen to win $100,000 and the title of Top Shot. Following his victory, he left his career at Google to become a full-time professional shooter for Bass Pro Shops.
From 2007 to 2012, Cheng worked at Google in enterprise technical support, product policy, and program management. He returned to Silicon Valley in 2015 as a business executive in customer support & corporate security.
He is an NRA-certified pistol, rifle, and shotgun instructor and volunteers his time advocating for LGBT, Asian American, and Second Amendment civil rights. He has testified in the United States Senate to protect our Second Amendment rights. Cheng serves on the boards of the Asian Pacific American Gun Owners Association (APAGOA) and the Pink Pistols.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from UCLA and a master’s degree in international policy from the Middlebury Institute of International Studies.

Chris is a self taught amateur turned pro after beating 17 competitors to win $100,000, the title of “Top Shot” and a pro shooting contract with Bass Pro Shops. He’s worked in Silicon Valley for 15 years and is passionate about bringing new shooters into the gun community.
Chris serves on both NRA and NSSF Outreach committees, and is on the board for Operation Blazing Sword and Pink Pistols, a pro-LGBT, pro-2A organization, as well as on the board for the Asian Pacific American Gun Owners Association known by their acronym APAGOA.
APAGOA and Operation Blazing Sword submitted an amicus brief for an upcoming Supreme Court case (Ocean State Tactical vs Rhode Island) to challenge RI’s AW and high capacity magazine ban. We also submitted an AB to the famous Bruen case.
Chris is also in the process of writing a war novel about The Purple Heart Battalion, a group of courageous Americans of Japanese descent who volunteered from the incarceration camps to fight for our country. They are the most decorated unit in US military history.
