Dan is a lifelong Arizonan with deep roots stretching back over a century. Born in Tucson in 1966, Dan comes from a multigenerational Arizona family—his father was born in Pima in 1944, and his grandfather in Solomon in 1900. For more than 100 years, the Butierez family has been part of Arizona’s story.
Dan is not a career politician. He is a small business owner dedicated to creating opportunity and offering second chances. His businesses focus on employing individuals recovering from addiction or transitioning out of incarceration. In just one summer, Dan provided jobs to 63 people, many of them coming directly from halfway houses and working to overcome fentanyl addiction—a crisis driven by the challenges at the southern border.
At home in Marana, Dan and his wife are passionate animal rescuers. Together, they have saved 25 horses and approximately 70 dogs, either finding them new homes or continuing to care for them themselves. For Dan, the belief that every life matters guides both his personal and professional life.

Wrongfully convicted without a fair trial, Dan spent ten years imprisoned and three decades working to clear his name. In 2019, the State of Arizona finally admitted its mistake. That wrongful conviction cost Dan nearly everything: his family, his livelihood, and the life he had built. But he never gave up.
Through faith and perseverance, Dan rebuilt his life—and now he’s helping others do the same. As a small business owner, he supports veterans, those battling addiction, and individuals reentering society. His businesses have given second chances to dozens, including 63 people in a single summer—many straight from halfway houses and recovery programs.
Dan and his wife live in Marana, where they share a deep commitment to animal rescue.
