Our guest today is Heather Rooks. Heather is a mom, former school board president, and 2026 candidate for Arizona’s LD28 House of Representatives, advocating for parental rights, academic excellence, fiscal responsibility, and strong community leadership. You are well known for standing up to power, and doing what is right, even when it comes at great personal and professional cost. You have been serving as the President of the Peoria Unified School District Governing Board up until very recently, when just such crossroads had to be traversed. Tell us, very briefly what happened in your District? You’ve said your journey into public service began simply as a mom standing up for your child during the masking debates and helping other families find their voice. How did that experience shape who you are today as both a person and a candidate? Critics sometimes claim that parents who became active during COVID were motivated by politics. How do you respond to those who misunderstand your advocacy journey and the heart behind your involvement? You earned the nickname “The Peoria Mom” because of your willingness to show up, ask questions, and advocate for families. What did those early school board meetings teach you about leadership and community engagement? As you campaign for the Arizona House in LD28, what are the top priorities you want to focus on to help strengthen your community and the state as a whole? (Parental Rights and Education, Safety in Our Community, Protect the Border, Defend the 2nd Amendment, Responsible Government, Election Integrity, Special Needs Community, & Affordability) What makes you uniquely qualified to be the AZ State Representative in LD28? How do people follow you and support your campaign? Originally Aired 5.5.26

Segment Guest List

AZ LD28 House of Representatives, advocating for parental rights, academic excellence, fiscal responsibility, and community leadership.

Heather is a devoted wife, mother, and lifelong resident of Peoria, Arizona. A proud graduate of Sunrise Mountain High School, Heather grew up in the Peoria Unified School District and understands firsthand the importance of a strong driven community. Before starting her family, Heather spent three years studying at Glendale Community College, preparing for her future. In 2010, she married her husband, Aaron Rooks, and together they have been blessed to raise four wonderful children over their 15 years of marriage. In 2020, Heather met fellow parent advocate Devon Updegraff-Day, and together they began actively supporting children’s education and parental rights through West Valley Parents Uniting, alongside many other dedicated parents. That same year, Heather started attending Peoria Unified School District board meetings to learn more about what was happening in local classrooms and how families could make a difference. She worked with previous Peoria School Board member and Representative Beverly Pingerelli. Her commitment and willingness to speak up for families, staff and the community quickly earned her the nickname “The Peoria Mom.” Through this journey, she connected with countless parents who shared her determination to protect their children’s education and preserve the right of families to make choices that reflect their values. Now serving her fourth year as an elected member of the Peoria Unified School District Governing Board as President, Heather Rooks proudly stands for Parental Rights, Accountability, Pro-American Curriculum, Academic Excellence and Fiscal Responsibility.

Now she is embarking on being a voice for her community as a conservative candidate for the LD28 House of Representatives. Heather continues to be a steadfast advocate for the families and citizens in the Peoria community — standing up for freedom, responsible leadership, and the conservative values that make Arizona great.
